About Us

Thorne Mason Trust. Registered UK charity number 1128581

When Mike Mason was diagnosed with his illness he didn't know where to turn to for help. He also realised how much his family needed support as well as himself. Thinking of others, he set up the Thorne Mason Trust in order to provide more support and information for people in Pembrokeshire who were affected by a brain tumour or cancer, raise awareness and raise funding for research into brain tumours, an illness that had hit his family more than once.

Since being founded in 2008 we are proud to announce that the Thorne Mason Trust hs now raised over £40,000.

Thanks to our kind supporters we are now able to use the money we have raised to help people in Pembrokeshire who are affected by brain tumours or cancer and to fund vital research into brain tumours. When Mike founded the Thorne Mason Trust in 2008 he had a clear 'vision' for the charity and thanks to your donations we now able to work towards achieving his aims.

We are fortunate to have a great team of volunteers on board, which means our running costs are very little. Therefore the majority of the money raised goes directly to helping individual people and sponsoring specific days of research, really making a difference to the lives of brain tumour and cancer sufferers.

Brain Tumour & Cancer Support

Currently the Thorne Mason Trust uses the money raised to offer support to anyone in the Pembrokeshire area who has been affected by a brain tumour or cancer.

Our aim is to provide different services to those already existing in Pembrokeshire so that we can help make everyday life a little bit easier for sufferers and their families. Because we are a small charity we are able to work on a personal level and provide services to suit the specific needs of individuals.

Services we have provided in the past include:

  • FREE complementary therapies at home
  • Funding visits to the Penny Brohn Cancer Care Centre in Bristol
  • Funding dinner in local restaurants for sufferers and their families
  • Contributing funds for transport to and from hospital for cancer patients and their families

We are now also able to fund and provide a range of additional services to suit the needs of individuals such as:

  • Gardening
  • Cleaning
  • Organic Vegetable Box Delivery
  • Hair and Beauty Treatments
  • Transport

Brain Tumour Research

The Thorne Mason is also raising money to fund vital research into brain tumours. We have recently become members of Brain Tumour Research UK, working together with a number of other charities to provide support and funding for brain tumours across the UK.

We have already made a significant contribution to brain tumour research supporting the `Wall of Hope' appeal which aims to raise £1m per year for research at the Brain Tumour Research centre of excellence at the University of Portsmouth. The wall marks the launch of Brain Tumour Research's national £7m `Centres of Hope' fund-raising campaign to raise £7m for seven centres of excellence to get seven times closer to finding a cure for brain tumours.

To enable the University of Portsmouth's centre of excellence to focus on their programme of brain tumour research it will need £1million per annum. Put simply, over a course of 365 days in a year, that's £2,740 per day.

Our aim is to Sponsor as many days of research as possible.
